My first knowledge of investing came at a young age after a tragedy in my family's life.  An insurance settlement invested in a savings bond during a time of soaring interest rates got me through college.  Then after a loan default, the investment institution went bankrupt and my nestegg was gone!   This taught me about preparing for the unexpected and it fostered my desire to teach others about investing.  The lesson I still use today from that experience is not just some cliche:  "Don't put all your eggs in one basket."

Developing relationships with my clients is a great satisfaction for me.  With huge advances in technology, the endless investment options can be overwhelming.  My hope is that our clients feel confident trusting us and can recognize we are working hard on their behalf.  The strategy to "plan effectively and invest efficiently" takes away the anxiety of retirement planning.

Learn More About Me

If you had a million dollars to spend, what would be the first three things you would buy?
Well, ask me when it arrives.

Seriously though, I'd set aside half for my income in the future, seed a fourth in a Donor Advised Fund, and distribute a fourth to friends & family.

What’s the most likely place people could find you on a Saturday night?
At friends, playing a card game of Scum, and sharing a meal.

Which would you pick: Living on the beach or living near the mountains?
It's hard to take the love of mountains out of a girl born and raised in Montana, but as I get older I enjoy the cold less.  In Oregon, we have the benefit of both beaches and mountains in a fairly mild climate.

Imagine being approached by a genie who offers you three wishes. What might those wishes be?

  • Listen well
  • Live compassionately with purpose, and
  • Let go of hurts.

If you had the ability to travel back in time, what’s something you would tell your 18-year-old self?
Words are powerful, and they have consequences.

Math came easy to me. I took every math class my small high school offered. However, in college, I turned to theology and Biblical Studies, sadly not much math was in my bachelor’s degree program. I had the opportunity to serve as a youth pastor and then later as a missionary in France. At one point, after four years in France, my wife and I had five children under the age of seven. It was a difficult place to live as a foreigner, so upon returning to the United States, I decided to turn back to math. I earned an MBA with honors from Marylhurst University. I enjoyed learning about business and investments. I was amazed to see how financial knowledge can make a huge impact to the bottom line.

My desire to serve others aligns with financial investments and planning. I have the privilege of helping people make financial decisions so they can serve the people who matter most to them. Everyday, I read and learn so that I can become more effective in giving financial service to our clients.

Learn More About Me

If you had a million dollars to spend, what would be the first three things you would buy?
I would want to contribute a portion to my favorite charities. I would take my family out to eat, probably pizza. I would put the rest into investments looking not only for return, but also for tax advantages.

What’s the most likely place people could find you on a Saturday night?
I have been making pizza at home once a week for the past six years, so you might find me in the kitchen making pizza for family and friends.

Which would you pick: Living on the beach or living near the mountains?
Living in Columbia County, we get both. We live less than two hours from the most beautiful beaches in the world and from one of the best mountains for year-round winter sports, Mt. Hood. However, to answer the question, I would choose to live near the mountains, yet close to the coast.

Imagine being approached by a genie who offers you three wishes. What might those wishes be?

  1. To be able to help people throughout the world find lasting peace
  2. To raise children who know who they are and what matters most in life
  3. That the Oregon Ducks would win a national championship in football

If you had the ability to travel back in time, what’s something you would tell your 18-year-old self?
This is a great time in life be thankful and don’t try to worry about the things you can’t control.

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest appreciating the natural beauty of the forest, mountains, and coast. I love being outdoors in my garden or yard, hiking, camping and paddleboarding on the Columbia River.

I was blessed to be a stay-at-home mom with my four children. I enjoyed volunteering at their schools, supporting them in Girl Scouts and cheering for them in soccer, baseball, softball and wrestling.

While my kids were growing, I served for eight years as the assimilation secretary and four years as the financial secretary at the church we attended.

I joined the Sommers Financial team in June 2022. It has been a great opportunity to work and learn in an encouraging environment with caring co-workers and clients.
