LEADERSHIP

Adam Sommers has been investing on behalf of clients since 1996. As the founder of Sommers Financial, Adam’s goal was — and remains today — to manage investments responsibly and with integrity, for the benefit of each client.

EDUCATION

Adam has taken classes toward a Master’s of Science degree in Personal Financial Planning and Financial Analysis, including studying the body of knowledge necessary to obtain the certification of Certified Financial Planner (CFP), as well as some classes toward the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Before his studies at the College for Financial Planning, he graduated magna cum laude from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, with a bachelor’s degree in business and a focus on financial analysis and personal finance. Adam maintains that the most valuable learning tools — besides experience earned each year in this business — are the books on his shelves. He is an avid student of investment leaders including Warren Buffett, Howard Marks, John Bogle, and Benjamin Graham.

COMMUNITY

Adam was born and raised in South Columbia County, Oregon, and splits his time between Tucson, Arizona and the Pacific Northwest. Adam’s wife, Teresa, was a public school teacher for 20 years in both Oregon and Arizona. They have two daughters, Alexa and Adelyn. Together, they enjoy canoeing, tennis, hiking mountain trails, swimming and watching basketball, while taking advantage of the best seasons of Oregon & Arizona.

She completed her Series 65 license to become an Investment Advisor Representative in March 2009.

COMMUNITY

Joyce grew up in Northwest Montana, but was never fond of the long and cold winters. She met her husband, David, in Colorado and they both welcomed the chance to leave the big city of Denver and return to Oregon in 2002. They have enjoyed being able to live and work in the St. Helens area, where David serves as an associate pastor. Joyce completed the Master Gardener certification program and previously worked with a local quilting group, serving the needs of the community. After several jobs with the St. Helens School District, she finds herself enjoying the challenges of being a Lead Advisor and Branch Manager at Sommers Financial Management.

Denice Shipman - 2022

Client Service Manager

SERVICE@sommersfinancial.com

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest appreciating the natural beauty of the forest, mountains, and coast. I love being outdoors in my garden or yard, hiking, camping and paddleboarding on the Columbia River.

I was blessed to be a stay-at-home mom with my four children. I enjoyed volunteering at their schools, supporting them in Girl Scouts and cheering for them in soccer, baseball, softball and wrestling.

While my kids were growing, I served for eight years as the assimilation secretary and four years as the financial secretary at the church we attended.

I joined the Sommers Financial team in June 2022. It has been a great opportunity to work and learn in an encouraging environment with caring co-workers and clients.
